Where it All Started
From the beginning, the existing layout created several frustrations. The first floor felt closed off, with limited connection between the kitchen and living areas. Everyday movement through the space was inefficient, especially around high-traffic areas like the kitchen prep zones and trash location. Storage was limited, and the overall layout no longer supported the way the homeowners wanted to live and entertain.
To solve these issues, the project focused on opening up the floor plan and reworking the kitchen to improve flow. A load-bearing wall was removed to unify the kitchen and living room into one cohesive gathering space. This structural change immediately transformed the feel of the home, allowing natural light and sightlines to extend throughout the first floor.
The kitchen was completely redesigned with a new layout. A large central island created additional workspace and became a natural focal point for gathering. Custom storage solutions like extensive pull-out cabinetry and organizational features were integrated to maximize efficiency and reduce visual clutter.
Beyond the kitchen, the renovation extended into the first-floor laundry room and living room to ensure the entire level felt cohesive and updated. The laundry space was redesigned for improved practicality, while the living room was refreshed to complement the new open-concept layout and with a seamless transition between spaces.
