Project Spotlight: Wiley Open Kitchen Remodel

What began as a desire to modernize a segmented first floor evolved into a full-scale transformation focused on improving daily functionality. The homeowners wanted a space that felt more connected, more efficient, and better suited for gathering with family and friends, all while working within a firm deadline to complete the project before the Christmas holiday season.

This 10-week renovation required careful coordination, fast decision-making, and a highly collaborative approach from start to finish. The homeowners were referred to us and came into the process already confident in our ability to manage both the construction process and the unexpected challenges that can arise during a remodel.

Where it All Started

From the beginning, the existing layout created several frustrations. The first floor felt closed off, with limited connection between the kitchen and living areas. Everyday movement through the space was inefficient, especially around high-traffic areas like the kitchen prep zones and trash location. Storage was limited, and the overall layout no longer supported the way the homeowners wanted to live and entertain.

To solve these issues, the project focused on opening up the floor plan and reworking the kitchen to improve flow. A load-bearing wall was removed to unify the kitchen and living room into one cohesive gathering space. This structural change immediately transformed the feel of the home, allowing natural light and sightlines to extend throughout the first floor.

The kitchen was completely redesigned with a new layout. A large central island created additional workspace and became a natural focal point for gathering. Custom storage solutions like extensive pull-out cabinetry and organizational features were integrated to maximize efficiency and reduce visual clutter.

Beyond the kitchen, the renovation extended into the first-floor laundry room and living room to ensure the entire level felt cohesive and updated. The laundry space was redesigned for improved practicality, while the living room was refreshed to complement the new open-concept layout and with a seamless transition between spaces.

A major factor in the project’s success was our collaboration with designer Indie Jae. We had a compressed timeline, so we streamlined communication and made some quick design selections.

One of the defining milestones of the project came during cabinet installation, when the homeowners could finally see everything coming together and how dramatic the changes really were. What was once a series of disconnected rooms had become an open, functional living space built around both everyday living and entertaining.

Despite the tight turnaround, the renovation was completed in time for the homeowners to host for the holidays.

The finished result delivered far more than an updated kitchen. The home now functions as a connected, highly usable living space tailored to the homeowners’ routines and lifestyle. Improved traffic flow, custom storage, and an open-concept layout completely changed the way the first floor feels and performs.

Perhaps the strongest reflection of the project’s success came afterward: the homeowners were so pleased with both the experience and the outcome that they immediately referred new business to our team. That continued trust and willingness to recommend us speaks directly to the value we bring to every project through thoughtful planning, reliable timelines, and attention to detail.
